An emerging category — Muslim-led environmental and climate organizations are a small but growing field. Scholarly work on Islamic environmental ethics is well-established; organizational infrastructure is still being built.

Frequently asked questions
- Is climate work zakat-eligible?
- Generally no under the majority scholarly view — environmental work is indirect and doesn't reach individual beneficiaries. Sadaqah is the appropriate form of giving.
- How do we evaluate climate organizations?
- Concrete projects over conceptual advocacy, measurable carbon or ecosystem outcomes, and avoidance of greenwashing. Small-scale organizations with demonstrated project work score higher than large ones with vague messaging.
- Why is this a separate category?
- Climate and environmental work has distinct evaluation criteria and distinct theological framing in the Islamic tradition. Rolling it into general advocacy would lose both.
- What's the relationship to humanitarian work?
- Climate-caused humanitarian crises (drought, displacement) are addressed by humanitarian charities in the response phase. This category covers mitigation and advocacy, not disaster response.
